The main objects of research in the Laboratory of Applied Geophysics are the following:

 

Development of techniques for simulating the propagation of seismic waves.

Seismic wave propagation simulation using (2,4) finite difference solvers of acoustic and elastic equations, Single path equation and sponge filters for absorption boundaries, Simulation of seismic reflection data from land and sea experiments with recorders on the surface or in boreholes , Creation of velocity model.

 

Multichannel Surface Wave Analysis (MASW).

Inversion of data using the dispersions curves of surface waves and a number of inversion techniques, Conversion of data from the space-time domain (x-t) to the speed-frequency domain (v-f).

 

Methods for classifying geophysical data.

Development of methodologies and standard algorithms for the classification of geophysical data using neural networks.

 

Seismic reflection signal processing.

Deghosting, time-varying frequency filters, attenuation of multiple reflections, near-drilling imaging.

 

Georadar signal processing.

Spectrum formatting using the S transform, complex feature analysis, data classification methods, three-dimensional migration location in time.

 

Combined inversion of geophysical data.

Seismic tomography, inversion of electrical tomography data, combined inversion of electrical and seismic data, electromagnetic and magnetic data processing techniques.
