WP8: Normalized elastic spectra for construction planning and comparison with the Greek Seismic Code 2000 and EC8

This WP derives and proposes normalized elastic spectra for construction planning in Crete and compares them with the ones from Greek Seismic Code 2000 and EC8.

To estimate the elastic spectrum more realistic site conditions were incorporated corresponding to in situ mapping and geophysical measurements. The recorded ground motion data from intermediate depth events in Crete and the surrounding area were used and the procedure defined in EC8 was followed to calculate the corresponding normalized response spectra for selected sites. These values are compared to those prescribed by the corresponding EC8 design spectrum for the seismic zone comprising the island of Crete. As a final outcome of this work, is to propose region specific elastic spectra for the seismic design of structures.
