geophysiCaL basEd hydrogeologicAl modeling to pRevent pollution from sea WATER intrusion at coastal areas

Sea water intrusion has severe impacts both in economical and social activities of coastal zones. Fresh water degradation affects irrigation and water supply, reduces agricultural and industrial activities while, non drinkable water may cause health problems.

ClearWater deals with the development of a sea water intrusion prediction tool in preventing water pollution in coastal zones and tourist areas.

The objective of ClearWater researsh program is the development of a systematic methodology for the prediction and prevention of salt water intrusion in coastal areas.

This methodology is based on the deployment of joint inversion techniques for the processing of geophysical data, and the optimum integration of geological, hyrdogeological and geophysical data for the water flow modeling.

The developed methodology was applied on selected sites in Greece and the Black sea region.
